Talk:DDS (file format)
From modwiki
"In practice, though, drivers can do the compression on the fly thanks to the GL_ARB_texture_compression extension, meaning the true advantage of DDS is just reduced space (meaning faster loading) without "double degradation" caused by recompressing already-compressed formats like JPEG."
I apologize for countering Riotgear's assessment, but I believe there's more to the DDS format than that. I've been able to keep my custom assets looking great at all quality levels and distances thanks only to the DDS format. So I tried to present an alternate point of view to the quote above. --onu 03:02, 31 December 2006 (CET)

Not at all
You raise a valid point that I think is often overlooked.
