Floating Images

Anyone know why images float on the right hand side instead of remaining enclosed in the section they are defined in? It looks kinda qwerky like it is now.

-Rich

Scratch that. I read on www.wikipedia.org that by adding a...

<br style="clear:both" />

... the text following this statment will be displayed below the images.

-Rich

It would be better to edit the stylesheet to force all headings (H1, H2, etc) to clear left and right.

H2 { clear:both };

This keeps the markup clean. Hemebond

Q4 skyportals

There should be a note near the skyportals stuff that its not unique to ROE anymore, it's also in Q4. --iceheart 01:23, 22 November 2005 (W. Europe Standard Time)

Moved and Rewored Seamless Texture Section

I felt it was necessary to move and reword the Seamless Texture section because it's not information that's only applicable to diffuse maps. Often times you also make the other image maps used in a material shader seamless as well.

Filter Forge

As much as I like this application, it doesn't warrent it's own section any more than Photoshop does even if you change the title to "Texture Generation".

Thumbnail problem

I've tried implementing the following markup in the normal map section of this article...

[[Image:Invert_normalmap.jpg|thumb|Depending on the tool used to render normal maps, you may need to invert the green channel of the resulting image in order for your normal map to render properly in game. When viewing the green channel of the image, it should appear as if it's being illuminated from the bottom.]]

But the wiki keeps reporting "Error generating thumbnail" yet there's no indication as to why. I'm going to leave this as is for now until I can sort out the problem.

Image problems

I think some aspects of images are busted because I was forced to downgrade the wiki software to fit this host, since there's no PHP5 here. --iceheart 08:01, 16 June 2007 (CEST)

Downgrade

Apparently, resize functionality is completely out of the picture.

So basically, any image on the wiki that was thumbnailed prior to the migration will continue to work. But if any of those images are updated, or entirely new images are uploaded and then subsequently thumbnailed, the wiki is going to crap out with an error.

It looks like the server stores a copy of the thumbnails. But I imagine it would be a pain to upload manually resized and appropriately named images to the correct locations. Although it would spare us a bit of work if and when PHP5 is installed.

I guess for now we'll just have to make due without or upload two files for every image and make the appropriate references.

Configuration problem?

If the old thumbnails still work, the wiki software works as intended. However, does Apache have write permissions on the thumbnail folder, and is ImageMagick configured properly?

Localsettings.php has the important configuration settings, like

  • $wgUseImageMagick = true;
  • $wgImageMagickConvertCommand = "/usr/bin/convert";

So are the values in this wiki install still correct?

PHP 4 should support it, seeing how Mediawiki v1.2 could do it before PHP 5 was released. --Kamikazee 16:08, 18 June 2007 (CEST)

Specular

Your specular texture should have more wear on the edges of the bricks, not on the face. Too late to fix on the texture, really, but I've updated the Wiki so as not to mislead any new artists. Professor420 17:38, 5 July 2007 (CEST)

Well...

In terms of a brick wall I'm not too sure about that. Perhaps the edges of the wall would show more wear but the edges of each individual brick shouldn't differ too much from their face.

But I suppose it's a matter of taste and I assume you're a more experienced texture artist than I am so I'll take your word for it.

However, I do hope you'll take the time to upload a set of replacement examples. It's bad form to leave it standing as is if it's going to be referred to as a mistake.

Party!

Images and thumbnailing now work correctly, as far as I can tell. --iceheart 18:12, 5 July 2007 (CEST)

Yeah Buddy!

Fantastic! Thank you so much.

I've been tinkering with InkScape lately trying to familiarize myself with vector graphics in hopes that I might be able to employ this sort of thing for drafting up diagrams and the like.

Now that resizing appears to work, I can go buck wild. I'll drink a beer for you bud.
