A better place to ask your questions...
A wiki isn't a good place for questions and answers. It's better to post your question in a forum like www.doom3world.org. --Rich 07:55, 19 Aug 2005 (W. Europe Daylight Time)
.demo file format help
I have some .demo files for a game how can i few them and edit them say if there not working and I need to go in and fix them. how would i go in an edit them is there a program for opening the .demo format? I have searched all over the place and the .demo file format is virtually nonexsistent. Thanks for your help and im sorry if this post is not relevant to what should be posted here. --Venture
- There is no way to edit them (at least I never heard of any, not even a suggestion how to do this).
- For such questions you should prefer forums. --Kissaki 02:59, 24 August 2007 (CEST)
Facelift?
What about a little more facelifting for the wiki? I'm thinking about an improved top-bar logo and a little favicon, just for kicks. Speaking of it, the modwiki needs a cool logo. Anyone volunteering? ;) --Democritus 07:48, 1 November 2005 (W. Europe Standard Time)
- I'll probably do a logo and a little favicon for it soon. --iceheart 09:39, 1 November 2005 (W. Europe Standard Time)
Search engine
Is it possible to enable searching for "words" with only 3 letters? Many file formats have only 3 :(

id Tech
We're modernizing to encompass all current and future generations of id Tech, I've started doing some changes where I could see it, but please update links and wording whenever you can! --iceheart 09:42, 9 July 2007 (CEST)
id Tech 5 spinoff
Whilst we're discussing id Tech 5, I would also like to poll for some other options. It still remains to be seen, but if modding for id Tech 5 is substantially different from id Tech 4, wouldn't it warrant a second wiki install? That way, we don't need to overhaul every single page to mark them id Tech 4 and physically split namespaces. Linking to related articles could turn out to be worse, although inter-wiki links exist on Wikipedia as well.
Anyway, that's just hypothetical and can be decided later on. It will also need some research. -Kamikazee 16:14, 4 August 2007 (CEST)
- I think that Rage logo would work better as red letters on the black background instead of white on orange. Yes, this bothers me :) . --Mordenkainen 23:46, 4 September 2007 (CEST)
older id techs
any plans to include the older engines? Like the W:ET one (IDTech 3?) --Kissaki 03:06, 24 August 2007 (CEST)
- We could but it's not planned. Like any section on the wiki, it needs active attention from people making worthwhile contributions to flourish and I'm not sure we're active enough to expand in that direction.
- That's not to say we won't. It's just that if you want such a section, you'll need to do more than edit the main page. You'll need to get the ball rolling by writing articles and promoting the site. --Rich 09:46, 24 August 2007 (CEST)
- I think it's not feasible to do so. I do come from id Tech 3, but I think with the release of ET:QW that id Tech 3 editing is going towards its end. I still have some W:ET stuff to finish, but that doesn't mean that someone else still needs the info. Besides, most W:ET information can be found over at the SplashDamage forums. -Kamikazee 16:23, 24 August 2007 (CEST)
Moderating the discussion pages
May any user moderate discussion pages and remove things like the "erm, well, hello ;)" post on this page? --Kissaki 03:11, 24 August 2007 (CEST)
- I don't think it's a good idea to edit discussion pages. --Rich 09:24, 24 August 2007 (CEST)
- We don't have a policy for cleaning up. I guess that it's mostly reserved for sysops, users cleaning pages could accidentally be seen for vandals.
Edit block, edit links on this wiki
The edit-links on the right of each block (to edit just that block) are totaly ruined.
As an example check Server query protocol, they're at the wrong positions and! wrong order. --Kissaki 17:49, 26 September 2007 (CEST)
- Care to post a link to a proper example? The articles on Wikipedia look to be setup exactly the same way.
- The edit section link is directly across from the section header. --Rich 07:32, 27 September 2007 (CEST)
- Looks perfectly fine to me, what browser etc are you using? --iceheart 10:27, 27 September 2007 (CEST)
- He's right, there was certainly a problem. The thing is, the page rendered fine. However, once you clicked any [edit] link it would take you to the wrong section. Turns out the wiki software could handle my "dynamic headings" trick just fine as long as it was for rendering, but once things came to editing, it would FUBAR. Sorry for the mess I caused, but it looked like they worked fine.
- I reverted all section templates to their old version again. This means they're equivalent again to <h2> tags instead of using any depth you want. I'll try to find a workaround on an off-line wiki from now on before using it here. --Kamikazee 21:41, 27 September 2007 (CEST)
